Volunteer Spotlight: Harald Mikkelson

With dreams of “riding his own horse into the hills someday”, Harald landed at MVHR to learn all he can about horses from Shana and Joel. He says, “Scooping poop is a small price to pay for the knowledge one can gain at such a wonderful place. And I have a lot to learn.”

Harald moved to Colorado from Pennsylvania in 2001 to snowboard and has been working in the restaurant industry ever since. He currently works at Grouse Mountain Grill in Beaver Creek. In his spare time, he’s either on the river, camping, biking, exploring the mountains or volunteering at MVHR. His previous caretaker/ handyman experience has been invaluable to us. Over the summer, he pitched in with hay, vehicle maintenance and repairs, and other projects around the Rescue. He also volunteers for a regular chore shift.

Harald’s favorite part about volunteering is getting to know the different horses as individuals and recognizing them at first glance. He says, “Shana and Joel have been great mentors and I look forward greatly to learning all I can at the ranch.”

We look forward to having Harald in our volunteer family for a long time to come. Thank you for all you do for the Rescue herd and MVHR!
