MVHR ~ More Journeys of Hope...than Ever!
2022 has been a story of more Journeys of Hope than ever before, at times the rescued herd at MVHR swelled to as many as 31 horses! In an effort to help those in the most desperate need, the MVHR Board approved this temporary swell in the herd numbers, as staff juggled corrals and worked towards finding adoptive homes as quickly as possible. And each of those horses brought their own story, their own challenges, their own celebrations and sadly some defeat.
Those who were adopted….
Mango and Salsa who found a loving home together, where they could continue to learn about trust and love.
Cali and Crow who embarked on adventures together, with a mother/daughter team who promise a wonderful life for these two remarkable horses.
The unforgettable Roman, who after years at MVHR found a home that loves him not in spite of, but because of all his quirks.
Doc and Chiquita who are now teaching children of our community about horses at their new home.
Buddy who has taken his Prix St. George dressage experience on the trail with his new friend.
Sweet Shadow who has a family of his own and has stayed on here at MVHR as a boarder.
Plus the other horses that round out the 22 adoptions in 2022.
Those who passed…
Nova and Tamian and Beamer who each battled their respective challenges with unique dignity and courage and were patient with us while we learned from them and puzzled over what was best for them. The years of hoof neglect they each suffered was ultimately more than they could overcome.
Chester, who was with us only a short while, but we sadly could not find a comfortable life for him given his severe arthritis and collapsing joints.
And now all of those still on their Journey…
Bear, Chip, Al, Wren, Bonita, Clifton, Latigo, Freddie, Big, Torec, Tango, Stardust, Gem, Shade Ladie, Cole, Rex, Freckles, Baybee, Toffee, Wildfire, Tango, Betty, Angel, Darcy, Sierra, Stormy & Boomer.
Each of whom gets a little healthier, learns a little more, and hopes a little harder each day that they might find their loving adoptive home soon.
Each of these horses has made their Journey of Hope with the backdrop of the extraordinary Robin’s Nest being built at the ranch. This incredible training facility took shape, and gained depth, with the guidance and vision of the Rhea Bigelow Charitable Trust, who is ensuring that this building will be a game changer for horses in need, and those helping them, for decades to come.
As MVHR rounds out 2022, the challenges in our world are bringing challenges to the horses, as they so often do. Economic hardship is pushing more and more families to reach out to MVHR for help with their animals that they simply cannot afford to care for any longer. Our waiting list continues to hover between 40-50 horses, with some families reaching out to us weekly to ask “please, is there room yet?!"
With a phenomenal facility coming online by year end, MVHR needs your help more than ever. With your volunteer help we can care for all the horses, with your adoption help we can take in others, with your donation support we can provide them with the care they need, to make their own Journey of Hope.
The beautiful Robin’s Nest will give us the space and facility to help more horses, but it takes more than walls to change a horse’s life.
Please, will you consider helping MVHR continue to make
more and more Journeys of Hope possible?
