Volunteer Spotlight: Janet
In celebration of National Volunteer Week, we're so thrilled to highlight our April Volunteer of the Month, Janet Cavanaugh. Janet has been a fixture at Mountain Valley Horse Rescue for the past four years.
Growing up in Pennsylvania, Janet made the move to the Vail Valley in 2009 with her husband Larry. Many of you will recognize Janet as our Sunday feeding volunteer, the position she’s had for her entire time as a volunteer – faithfully supporting our horses with feeding and lots of love each and every Sunday evening.
Janet is also quick to support on community help days as well, and loves any opportunity to interact with the MVHR horses, showing the community how important rescue work can be. For Janet, “I guess the thing that brought me to the horse rescue is my love for horses that's been deep in my heart since I was a little girl,” she says.
“Volunteering is the best way for me to get my horse fix without buying a horse.”
Although she didn’t have a previous background with horses before she began volunteering, Janet quickly felt a sense of ease with them. “I just like being with all the horses. I want them all to feel good and that's what I try to do when I'm there, making them feel good and more comfortable.”
Thanks, Janet for everything you do to ensure the health and happiness of our horses and our organization.
