The Horses: Your Donations Lead to 8 Adoptions in 2019!
Thanks to the generosity of the MVHR Community, Casey was one of the 8 lucky horses who found her forever home this year! In 2019, Casey, Ryder, Lucky, Appy Boy, Chanel, Amber, Button and Luck found their forever homes.
Casey came from a local, longtime supporter of MVHR, who had owned horses for years. When her older horse passed away, she did not want Casey to be alone. Casey also needed a training tune up before finding a new home, so she came to MVHR. Casey was one of the horses that staff and volunteers worked with in the 60 Day Challenge, to prepare her for MVHR Summer Day Camp. She was a favorite of campers, and was quickly adopted when camp ended. Casey will now be a family horse at a ranch in Eagle County.
Thanks to funds that support horse training, this first 60 Day Challenge got Casey and others ready for Summer Day Camp, which in turn got her ready for her new home. For the first time ever, all of the Summer Day Camp herd were Rescue horses!
Appy Boy’s previous owner fell on hard economic times, but now this spunky youngster has a bright future at a show barn in the Carbondale area.
Chanel was one of the four mustang mares rescued in the winter of 2016 from a severe neglect situation in South Dakota. Her sponsor’s support helped pay for her training both on and off site, enabling this beautiful mare to find the right person for her future.
Also in 2019, MVHR lived up to its promise that any previous MVHR Rescue can come back, and Amber, Cassie, Cekka and George returned.
MVHR’s 30-day trial adoption period works! Cekka’s adopters loved her but decided the time was not right. Amber, George and Cassie had been away longer, but their owners needed to make difficult personal decisions that required no longer having a horse. All four Rescues came back to MVHR in good shape and ready to find new homes. And George’s previous owner is still sponsoring him! It is amazing how resilient a horse can be when treated well, despite changing homes more than once.
Amber was doubly fortunate. Her initial adoption turned out to not be perfect for her. Within weeks of returning, Amber went out on a new 30-day trial and found her forever home.
You can insure that MVHR continues to meet its mission – so please continue to donate – and help more horses, mules, ponies and donkeys.
